Recology Oregon Material Recovery offers a convenient network of Portland-area recycle centers. Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste entering Oregon's landfills. Our recycling centers are facilities which accept material ranging from yard debris, to Styrofoam, and much in between.
Our North Portland and SE Portland facilities are referred to as: "Material Recovery Facilities" (MRF; pronounced "murf") where the facility accepts loads of [mixed or sorted] "dry", non-putrescible waste (putrescible waste is waste which is liable to decay, spoil or become putrid) containing high percentages of recyclable materials including mixed waste paper, metals, plastics, yard debris, wood, concrete, rock, brick dry asphalt, construction and demolition wastes, land clearing debris, and gypsum wallboard (untreated and unpainted).
The opening of our MRF yard in North Portland and our other locations are efforts made to reduce the amount of waste entering the landfills. Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources. Recycling reduces pollution, saves energy, mitigates global climate change, and reduces pressures on biodiversity. The benefits of recycling are found in every stage of the life cycle of a consumer product: from the mining of raw materials through use and final disposal.
Our three centers accept a range of materials, please check with individual location to learn about their rates, operating hours and commodities accepted.
We are continually taking steps to improve and expand materials that can be recovered, and have high goals in increasing our diversion rate from landfills. Portland is a leader in both sustainability and environmentally conscious living. We're proud and excited to be a part of the solution, and look forward in taking steps together towards a healthier city.
